One month. Neither a long nor short time for most of us. However, do you ever wonder what you can achieve in this period of time? How much you can force yourself to reach your own limit? And are your ready when facing different challenging situations?
Before entering DPA to become PTD, I’m just a normal 8-to-5 office girl. 5 years in R&D field has given me a job, which has boxed me into my comfort zone. One day, when I was stuck in a traffic jam, I questioned myself, “Is this the life that I want? Am I capable of doing other things which I never thought of?”
Uncertainty and self-doubts of life lingers on, I received an email regarding PTD online test. Stages by stages, out of my expectations, I passed all the tests and now here I am. Actually, I don’t really survey pertaining the 10-months training ahead of me. The intention is to keep the training as mysterious as possible to motivate myself to continue with this journey.
3 major events I had gone through in January – Group Integration, MPP Election and Event Management. All these 3 events had forced me to step out of my comfort zone instantaneously. I was so lucky to be grouped under GROUP KAMBING because this group was full of positive and encouraging vibes while we gone through all the tough activities during the 3 days 2 nights Group Integration at Kem Lambaian Danau, Jasin, Melaka. These activities really tested my limits because I’m afraid of water in the first place. Things I’ll never ever do in my life, for example jumping off the jetty and going underneath the water, proved that I’ve nothing to be afraid of actually. I’m so grateful that I have such an amazing and supportive facilitator and teammates throughout the Group Integration. We know that together we are stronger and we can achieve anything that we are committed to. The spirit of togetherness imprinted in me, which I believe I would bring it with me for my entire life.

The second major events I had gone through was MPP Election. I gathered all my courage to volunteer as the Managerial Officer to organize and oversee the whole election process including the nomination of candidates, manifesto of candidates, monitoring the online voting systems and the announcement of the results. The real challenge ahead of me was the team had only one and the half days to have the online voting system running and also to make sure the flow of the election was running smoothly on 11/1/2019 (Friday). Again, I was blessed with an incredible and marvelous team members which shows more than 100 percent of commitment to make this election a successful one. Although we had sacrificed our sleeping time, we finally pull it off. Also, I’m thankful with the help of SKPMI, who had given full support to us and also highlighted the hiccups/area of improvements to us, brushing us to become better in managing an event in the future.
Last but not least, the third event was Event Management. We, Sidang 4 and 5 was tasked to organized a play/theater, namely Nostalgia Bintang Legenda, a tribute to the famous and talented late P. Ramlee. I had decided to help out as a keyboardist with my piano music background but as usual, things are not going as planned. Dealing with chords made me so frustrated and fortunately with the help of my keyboardist partner and the leader, we managed to pull it off at the end of the play. Beside the small accomplishment we, the music committees had made, the whole event was a success because everyone was enjoying the play including the VIPs and VVIPs.
The Music Committees
In a nutshell, all the activities and modules I had gone through for the pass 1 month, I’m really grateful because I’m surrounded by all these helpful people which makes me grow. Besides that, the valuable things I learned, including unity and togetherness, confidence, tolerance and scarification makes me a better person from this point onwards. A sincere thank you to all of the people had given their support to me throughout the pass 1 month. May all of us, 345 cadets graduate DPA in November 2019 and become an excellent PTD Officers in the future.
